/// Passive fire protection in Redbridge
Redbridge runs from Ilford, with its busy town centre and new high-rise flats, up through Gants Hill and Barkingside to leafy Woodford and Wanstead. Much of the borough is Edwardian and inter-war terraced housing, and a lot of those houses have been converted into flats or let as shared houses. Around Ilford station and the town centre there are taller new apartment buildings.
Converted terraces and HMOs make up a large share of the work here. We cover all of Redbridge, a short trip east from our City Road office.
Fire doors in Redbridge
Many Ilford and Seven Kings terraces have been split into two or three flats, with front doors added on the stairs and landings. Those doors are often ordinary internal doors with a lock, not fire doors. In shared houses, bedroom doors need closers and smoke seals that actually work. We inspect them, repair what can be repaired and fit certified fire doorsets where needed.
Fire stopping and compartmentation in Redbridge
Conversions create new separating floors between flats, often just the original floorboards and ceiling. Pipes, cables and extract ducts through them open up a path for fire. In new blocks near the station, risers and service cupboards need checking floor by floor. We seal both with tested fire stopping and enclose meters under stairs.
What we check in Redbridge buildings
- Flat front doors on stairs and landings in converted terraces
- Bedroom doors in HMOs: closers, seals and locks
- Floors between flats: pipes, cables and extract ducts
- Meters and consumer units under the stairs
- Risers and service cupboards in new blocks around Ilford
