/// Passive fire protection in Haringey
Much of Haringey is Victorian and Edwardian terraces, many divided into flats or let as shared houses, especially around Harringay, Hornsey and Crouch End. Tottenham and Wood Green add large estates and new apartment blocks, particularly around Tottenham Hale.
Shared houses and conversions are where we see the most basic problems: doors that were never fire doors, closers removed because they were "annoying", and meter cupboards under the stairs with open holes behind them.
Fire doors in Haringey
We inspect flat entrance, bedroom and communal doors, carry out repairs such as fitting closers and smoke seals, and install certified fire doors where replacement is the right answer.
Fire stopping and compartmentation in Haringey
Under-stair meter cupboards in converted houses often sit on the escape route, with open holes and a door that does nothing to hold back fire. We compartment them by sealing the penetrations, boxing in and fitting fire-rated doors, and fire stop the service holes between floors.
What we check in Haringey buildings
- Under-stair meter cupboards on the escape route
- Doors in shared houses and flat conversions
- Missing or disconnected door closers
- Holes between floors around pipes and cables
- Communal doors in estate and new-build blocks
